Personal Loans With Bad Credit
Written by Sam McCarter
Obtaining personal loans with bad credit may seem like a difficult task, and it is, unless you know what is available, how the system works and how you can work to improve your credit score.  Doing these things will help you to improve your overall ability to obtain credit for any reason.  More so, individuals find themselves with a wealth of opportunities to then improve their credit score with new credit lines.  The fact is, if you wish to improve your credit score, you need credit to do it with.  That's exactly what you can do, with a few tips.

Can You Get Credit?

Your credit score is based on your past credit history.  Nearly all lenders will report the way that you make payment on your bills, your credit limit and the amount of credit you are using each month to the three credit bureaus.  These three, TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax obtain this information, organize it into a report that details just about everything about you, and then use the information to calculate a specific number to show just how well you are managing your credit.  This number is your credit score.  All future lenders are able to pull up this report and credit score to learn about you.  Therefore, to obtain personal loans with bad credit, you first need to know why you have bad credit and determine what you can do to improve it.

Lenders use credit scores to evaluate the amount of risk that you possess.  The more risk you are, the more likely they are to lose their money in giving it to you.  They base their decision o your credit score and credit history report.  They compare you and your score to those of people in the past with similar scores and how they managed their loan.  The higher your credit score, the less risk you pose to the lender and the more readily you can obtain a loan through that lender.  If you have a very bad credit score, the lender sees you as a risk of defaulting on making payments or even filing bankruptcy, which means that they would lose their investment in you.

Although all credit lenders want to find and take advantage of borrowers that have good credit scores, each has their own rules about who to lend money to.  For many, this is based on internal factors and their own financial goals.  Yet, each lender sets their own goals.  In other words, if your credit score is too low to obtain a personal loan with bad credit, it may be okay enough for another lender to provide the loan to you.  Some lenders even specialize in what is called sub prime lending where they specifically lend to those with less than perfect credit.  IF you need a loan, it may be necessary to work with some of these lenders if your credit score is very low.

The only way for you to know if you qualify for a loan is to apply for one or to talk to the potential lender about your qualifications for that loan.  Plus, other factors besides credit go into providing you with a loan.  For example, you will need to qualify for the loan with employment verification.  They lender wants to know if you make enough money to make the payments on the loan and to make payments on the other obligations that you have.  In addition, they want to be sure that your employment is strong and will be lasting to them.

Improving Credit Opens Doors

Personal loans with bad credit are difficult to come by.  Personal loans are unsecured loans, which mean that there is no collateral backing them up.  In that, the lender facing more risk lending to a person with less than good credit because there is no asset for them to take back if you should default on the loan.  These personal loans are not like car loans or home loans, in this regard.  This makes them hard to get without any type of collateral at all.  If you do have something of value that can be useable in getting credit, that may be one way for you to obtain the credit you need without the high risk factor.

The fact is that you need to work on improving your credit score if you want to qualify for loans like this.  There are many ways that you can do that, though.  For example, you can use any of these methods to work on improving your credit.

  • Reduce the amount of money that you owe on credit cards.  Do not use them.
  • Make your payments on time.  A one day late payment can affect your credit score for up to 2 years and can cause it to drop significantly.
  • Use credit wisely.  If you are going to use credit, reduce the amount that you use to the amount that you can pay off completely each month.  This way you also do not pay finance charges.
  • Get a copy of your credit report which is available right online and be sure that there are not any errors on the report itself.  This means looking at your report from all three of the credit bureaus.  The agencies say that up to 80 percent of all people have errors on their credit report that could be hurting their credit scores.

When it comes to borrowing money, personal loans with bad credit are difficult to find.  You will want to consider using the web to help you to find sub prime lenders that specialize in this type of lending.  You also want to work with your current lenders to determine how you can improve your credit score.  Once you do get your personal loan, use it wisely by making payments on time.  This can drastically help you to improve your credit score in the long run.  Then, you will not need to rely on these less than ideal options.  Instead, you can apply for personal loans with bad credit that is not as bad.
